Appearance

Arella is 5’2” tall and built like the dancer she is. Her long, often beribboned tresses are a beautiful shade of golden blonde, and her eyes are a perfect, innocent blue. Oh, and she’s cute enough to have most of the TPCD running for cover. Ph34r t3h cut3 0n3s.

As a magical girl, it should be no surprise that Arella can most often be seen in either a dress or a cute skirt and top. Unless, of course, she’s out dancing or skating, in which case she has a rather astounding collection of costumes and cute training outfits. She regularly carries around a lovely pair of red ballet slippers with her in hammerspace; what else she may have in there is relatively unknown. Her favorite colours to wear include pink, red, white, and blue.

Arella can always be seen wearing an ornate red and gold pendant of a heart and angel wings.

The Warrior Angel Elle wears a short white and red dress trimmed in gold, with several red ribbons tying into a single small bow at the back, the long tails of which trail behind her. Her high-heeled, Sailor-Moon-style boots are white with a red stripe and gold heart at the top.

Weapons

  • An ornate gold sword with a long red ribbon tied to the hilt
  • The Wibbles of Mass Destruction (and just general too-cute-to-be-allowed-ness). Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.

Special Abilities

As the Warrior Angel Elle, Arella is able to wield the power of light, which she can manipulate into many shapes and forms. These include a spherical light shield, tiny daggers of sparkling white light, and general blasts of light. The light shield she can use even when not in magical girl form, but it takes a great deal of energy to maintain, and she tires easily.

Arella also possesses the ability to absorb the physical pain of others into herself. Unfortunately for her, her low pain tolerance often leads to her passing out.

And of course, as a magical girl, she possesses a ridiculous amount of energy and genkiness.

Backstory

Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Arella is an only child and was very close to her parents, especially her mother. It was from them that she learned her strong sense of justice, and the importance of helping others. Her father did something “businessy” as she will put it, having never actually understood what it was (in spite of his repeated attempts to explain it to her), and her mother was a stay-at-home mom.

When Arella was five years old, she went on a trip to Italy with her parents, where they toured many of the old cathedrals (among other things). While touring St. Peter’s Basilica, she somehow found her way into the tomb of St. Peter, and from there into another, smaller room, where a pretty pendant lay upon a pedestal, waiting for her. Arella has never gone anywhere without that pendant since that day.

Arella was already twelve years old by the time the pretty pendant she had found activated, transforming her into the Warrior Angel Elle. A man with electricity powers had been passing through the city on a path of destruction, and attacked her while she was on her way home from school. She spent the next several years learning to harness her powers, and protecting the people of her city.

Then the vampire came. Determined to hunt down and stop the creature that was killing the people of her city, Arella went after him, unaware of just how unprepared she was to face a vampire. She ended up getting shot, and would have been bitten and bled dry if not for the mercenary who had been following it. Skorpion quickly took care of the vampire, before treating her wounds and taking the unconscious magical girl back to where he was staying. Over the next few days, Arella would reveal to him that she was the Warrior Angel Elle, and he would teach her the basics of fighting vampires and about t3h Gr34t T34ch3r L4rg0.

Her next encounter with vampires was to come far too soon. Entering her home one night, they attacked and killed her parents, and very nearly her as well. She spent the next several weeks in a coma in the hospital, slowly healing from the many knife wounds that had been inflicted upon her for some reason. Feeling that there was nothing left for her in Boston, and wanting to get away from all the media coverage and attention she’d received, Arella left for Megatokyo shortly after her parents’ funeral, determined to join the Followers of Great Teacher Largo.

In-Thread History

It Happened Last Thursday

Arrival of Arella, Part One: Arella arrives in Megatokyo, grieving for her parents and looking for Skorpion.

Arrival of Arella, Part Two: Arella sort of explains what happened to her parents, and asks Skorp to train her so that she can avenge their deaths. She also wants to join the FGTL.

Arella Meets... Andrew?: Arella has a strange meeting with the head of the FGTL, and learns about the Hall of B33r.

Arella and the Hall of B33r: Andrew takes Arella to the Temple of Largo for her trial in the Hall of B33r, where she faces her greatest fear.

Orientation: Arella meets Ash, who gives her a guided tour of HQ.

Prophecies and Fanboys: The tour continues! Ash and Arella run into some Largoists, who are working on a very familiar little robot that’s suffering from a few glitches.

There Is Definitely No Subtext When Ash Takes Arella To Her Bedroom: The tour ends at Ash’s bedroom, where Arella gets to learn a few things about her new friend.

Night Terrors, Part One: A very homesick Arella is trying to avoid going to sleep, because she’s been having nightmares about the night her parents were killed, but she can’t put it off forever. The nightmare returns, and she wakes up screaming.

Night Terrors, Part Two: Lucius comes to the rescue when he hears Arella’s screams; Arella latches onto him and cries.

A Scream In the Night: Ash follows Lucius to Arella’s room, to protect her from possible hentai baka-ness. Arella eventually sort of explains her nightmare, and after some discussion, it’s decided that she will spend the rest of the night in Ash’s room.

Annoying Telekinetics for Fun and Profit: Arella gets extremely embarrassed upon realizing she’s been clinging to a guy she doesn’t know, and that neither of them is wearing much clothing. Ash promptly takes care of Lucius, and gets Arella settled into her room.

She turned me into a newt! ...I got better...: Arella and Ash talk about scars and stuff, before getting silly and descending into a giggle fit.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It’s Off to the LDG Manor We Go: Ash is taking Arella to meet Aneko. Arella has a SGIS moment on the bus.

My Best Friend’s Mother: Arella meets Aneko. This results in her getting lots of hugs, talking, and having a good cry. Aneko promptly adopts her, whether Arella knows it or not.

1 Magical Girl + 1 Wanted Murderer + 1 Stalker = Tons of Fun^^: Ash is taking Arella vampire watching, to help her train. They pick up a stalker along the way.

MegaTokyo Rooftop Madness: Ash and Arella make their way towards the Hollows to do some vampire watching, and meet some interesting people while searching for a rooftop to do their watching from.

Vampire-Watching is Like Bird Watching, Only Scarier: The vampire watching begins! Ash even has a vampire guidebook to help them identify the different types. Unfortunately, it turns out that not all vampires respect the fact that hunting humans is illegal outside the Hollows, and Arella looks especially tasty.

Sparkling Angel: Ash and Arella get their asses kicked by the vampire. Their attacker then reveals Ash’s past to Arella, before biting the magical girl and letting her fall from the sky.

Please State the Nature of the Medical Emergency: Help arrives in the form of Nicholas and Anaryn! While Nicholas chases the vampire off, Anaryn appears to give Arella some blood and save her life. Nicholas then rushes Ash and Arella back to the FGTL for medical help.

Damage Was Sustained: Back at HQ, Mahou tends to Ash’s broken legs, while Arella tries to help her with the pain and ends up passing out. Nicholas then checks to make sure she hasn’t been infected by one of her vampire bites. Once Arella returns to the land of the conscious, the girls decide to have a sleepover.

A Mother For All Seasons: Arella and Aneko have a picnic in the park. Arella asks her about Ash and her parents, and Aneko offers some moral advice. Arella also learns that Aneko makes a good pillow.

A Gothic Arella?: Skorp takes Arella to the reopening of the Cave of Evil.

Three’s a Crowd: Arella runs into Nicholas and Anaryn at the Cave of Evil, and thanks them both. It becomes increasingly obvious that something about Arella is off – namely, her complete lack of fear and upset in regards to her recent vampire attack.

Clan-destine Meetings: Looks like there’s a smaller party happening downstairs, and it’s all kinds of fun! Arella then decides the girls should all have a slumber party later – including Saeko/Sareth.

Dirty Dancing: Arella joins Aneko and Lenore in a dancing contest that ends with Arella giggle fitting on the floor.

An Abnormal Day In Megatokyo

Vampire ‘jammies Aren’t Funny: Slumber party time! Ash’s vampire ‘jammies end up triggering the fears Arella had been enjoying going without, and her freaking out leads to Ash placing a quick call to Anaryn. Pirates to the rescue!

Here, There Be Vampires: Unwilling to leave Lenore alone in the Hollows after dark, Arella finds herself in one of her worst nightmares; luckily for her, Lenore is more than capable of handling a few vampires.

The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers!: Arella arrives at the Manor for a sleepover with Aneko; the two end up finding an onsen, and decide to have a bath. Memories and talking ensue.

A Beautiful Friendship? No, not really...: Arella meets a young woman who claims to be a magical girl named Viorica, but is really Nex in disguise. This time, when vampires attack, they all end up dead – some by Arella’s own hand.

Magical Girl Moods: Arella has been in full SGIS mode ever since getting back from meeting “Viorica.” Two days having already passed, Ash has called in Aneko. Arella also gets to meet the real Viorica.

At the Codfish Ball: Arella gets a job at Piscary’s Ice Cream Parlour, and goes to the park with Aneko and Shiri to celebrate.

Of Heaven and Hell... and Ice Cream. Can’t forget the ice cream.: Arella meets a man named Mokushi while at work. He has some questions for her about the factions, and seems strangely afraid of someone named Aneko...

Sad Factions In Snow

Dancing Around the Truth: Sareth confronts Arella with (some of) what he knows about the attack on her and her family, and warns her that those responsible are now in Megatokyo.

Yo Mama’s a Hentai Baka: Saeko gets Arella and Ash to dress up in a decidedly non-Largoist fashion, before they all head back to Arella’s room for a Lord of the Rings movie marathon. Jokes about their mother follow.

Magical Girl Common Sense Lesson: Never Follow Strangers into Dark Places: Masaru kidnaps Arella on Nex’s orders, using a suspiciously familiar dagger.

Abuse: Nex abuses her captive magical girls, and completes the spell she had previously begun on Arella. Arella is now suffering from some serious mental trauma, among other thing.

Breakout: Saeko takes charge, and the girls set about making their escape. Arella really isn’t doing very well.

The girls end up getting caught before they can truly escape, but their friends come to the rescue. Nex and her master end up dead, and Arella is safe again.

Of B33r And Ph34r

lulzpost can has DRAMA: Arella meets Mokushi at the park for some roller skating. As it turns out, Arella has been helping Mokushi with some stuff. At the moment though, he’s really more interested in getting her doubting Aneko.

Of Dances and Arguments: Arella dances with Aneko at the FGTL party, and they end up getting into a fight. Mokushi is waiting for her when she comes running outside in tears.

Magical Girl Mokushi’s Secret Lair: Mokushi takes Arella to his secret lair, and she quotes one of her favorite Teen Titans episodes.

A Secret Lair, A Secret Plot: Arella’s ballet dancing has helped her calm down, and the demon invasion has begun. Arella is feeling a little guilty for not helping her friends, especially Ash, but she has a mission of her own to be fulfilled before the invasion is over. Mokushi manipulates her into learning the truth about her friends while they wait.

The First of the Sinners: Mokushi is using VR technology to show Arella the truth about her friends, beginning with Skorpion and various other members of the FGTL.

The Second of the Sinners: Sareth’s turn! Arella really doesn’t want to watch any more, but she knows that a magical girl cannot knowingly turn away from the truth, so she stays.

Rest for the Righteous: Mokushi lets Arella take a break from the videos, lest she break too soon. Time for My Little Pony the Movie, and comfort foods! Of course, it being 4:30am, Arella ends up falling asleep.

Once Upon A Dream: Arella has a nice dream about her okaasan.

Sir Not a Rescue In This Film: Arella meets up with one of her supposed rescue parties in the lobby of an office building, to assure them that she is not in need of rescuing. Shama brings up the issue of her spear, but the conversation doesn’t exactly go the way he’d like.

Sir Not a Rescue In This Film... Again: Arella is worried about Ash, and sends her rescue party to help her.

The Third of the Sinners: Mokushi assures Arella that Ash is, in fact, perfectly safe, and they return to the videos of her friends. This time, it’s Saeko’s turn.

The Last of the Sinners: Arella finally sees Aneko’s videos, and they break her completely.

Revelations – Part I: The Demon Dances: A broken Arella helps Mokushi create a rift, cutting the boundaries between the mortal and demonic realms. Mokushi then orders his minions to kill her.

Revelations – Part II: The Angel Sings: Elle wakes up, and Arella’s true nature is revealed. She isn’t at all pleased with what Mokushi has done to her Arella, either – or with any of those who have hurt her.

Nakanaide torawareta gensou wo kowashi: Elle has now set about destroying anything and everything that might hurt her Arella, even if that means she has to wipe out the entire city. Then Aneko shows up, and their epic battle begins.

Jeder Engel ist schrecklich: The battle with Aneko continues. Elle appears in a news broadcast, but they wisely retreat after she takes out some nearby FGTL helicopters and turns her attention to theirs.

My Crossfire Romance: Viorica comes after Aneko, and in trying to stop the battle between angel and mikage ends up right in the middle of it. Elle isn’t particularly interested in hurting Viorica, but killing Aneko is more important to her than the other magical girl’s safety.

And in my hour of darkness: Aneko begins to use her onmyoudo, and Elle pulls out one of her favorite and most powerful attacks. But when Elle finds herself trapped in a subway tunnel, with Arella beginning to awaken, the battle takes an unexpected turn.

Important Relationships

Aneko: Arella’s replacement mother-figure, or “okaasan.”

Ash: One of her first friends among the Largoists, Ash has somewhat taken the place of her old best friend Sara, on top of being her adopted sister. She was also the one to introduce Arella to Aneko.

Saeko: Another good friend and adopted sister. Arella finds the knowledge that Saeko has done some bad things strangely comforting now that some of her memories from the demon invasion are beginning to come back.

Sareth: Revealed to her just who was responsible for her parents’ deaths and why. Arella still doesn’t know about the connection between him and Saeko, and there’s a good chance she never will.

Skorpion: Saved her life once back in Boston; he’s the reason she came to Megatokyo in the first place.

Lucius: Every magical girl needs a love interest. Seriously – it’s like a rule or something. Though she seems to be avoiding him at the moment.

Sara: Arella’s best friend back in Boston.

The Warrior Angel Elle

In truth, this is Arella’s true form.

Unknown even to Arella herself, her existence did not begin with her as a human girl (or even a magical girl), but as an angel. She was chosen to be reborn on earth as a human, to watch over God's creations, and defend them when necessary. Her identity as the Warrior Angel Elle is closest to her true form, and draws upon the powers granted to her from Heaven.

It should be noted that, unlike Arella, the angel herself will not hesitate to kill evil. She also (obviously) has a much better grasp of her powers and abilities, but will rarely surface unless Arella’s life is in danger.

Fun Facts

  • Arella learned Japanese (along with most Japanese customs, and a fair amount of history) from her mother
  • Arella’s favorite stuffies include a big pink bunny stuffie named Snuggle Bunny, and the Build-A-Bear Hello Kitty stuffie that her friends from Boston sent her
  • Her new cell phone (which is a lovely shade of red) currently has the song Fly (by Hilary Duff) as its ringtone
  • Her favorite magical girls are Sailor Moon and Rainbow Brite
  • Favorite historical figures include Cleopatra VII, Elizabeth Tudor, Lady Jane Grey, Marie Antoinette, Elisabeth (Sissi) Wittelsbach, and Anastasia Nikolaevna
  • Her favorite colours are red, white, and pink
  • Arella was actually accepted into Julliard’s dance program, and was supposed to have started there the very September that she left for Megatokyo
  • During the day, she can usually be found either at a ballet studio or a skating rink, if she isn’t hanging out with her friends
  • Arella has yet to actually register with the TPCD
  • Much to her dismay, she does not, in fact, have one of those cute little guardians typical of magical girls. This is a rather sensitive topic for her, so it isn’t recommended that one bring it up.
  • Her greatest fears include failing in her duties as a magical girl, being utterly and completely alone, and vampires
  • She has no sneaking skills whatsoever. If she had a stat for that, it would probably be an extremely high negative number.
  • She’s also a terrible liar, and doesn’t have a secretive bone in her body. The fact that she has somehow managed to maintain a relatively secret identity for so long is nothing short of astounding.
  • Arella can play both the flute and the piano, and she has a lovely singing voice
