He is one of Aleksander Storm's many created characters.
A member of Lord Bester's Psi-Corps. He was trained by the same people as Mackay in the use of his abilities, and knew him at the Monastery. However, he eventually turned his back on the ideals that governed Psion Monks and had found his way into the UEA's ranks.
His psionics allow him to start and control fires as well as control heat levels and manipulate hot matter.
In Rise of the Dark Goddess, it was revealed that Embers had helped with the rescue of Kimura Aiko from a demonic ceremony. Ash has sworn vengeance against all involved in the rescue, but she and Embers have not since crossed paths.

Sometimes wears a bomber jacket - beyond that, he seems to prefer casual clothing mixed with military fatigues and the like. If necessary, will wear a suit, but may not keep it orderly.
Characterization
Questioning his very involvement in separating the Fallen Angel and Miss Kimura, no matter how 'righteous' it may have seemed to do so, and questioning the 'correctness' of various other incidents, he sought to find an alternate solution...
He believed the UEA had that solution.
Eventually, these series of events had finally allowed the good 'fire' traits in him to show through... He now looks to the future, and has a reborn, carefree passion for life. ( "Whatever comes my way'll be good... an' if not, I'll jus' let it slide. It'll turn out alright in th' end." )
Most recently, Charles Embers has found himself attracted to the idealism of the Largoists. Mahou may have served as a catalyst for this, however.
