Basic Information

The IRC chat room is the best way to get in contact with the other players of Megatokyo: the Clans. Most of us go in there. The details to access the room are as follows.

Server Address: irc.irchighway.net
Port: 6667
Channel: #mttc

IRCHighway.net

This channel uses NickServ, so please register you nick and add your self to this list IRCChat. This keeps people from stealing other's nicks for fun or notsofun reasons.

Registering a Nick

In a server window for IRCHighway (i.e. not in the #mttc channel-- some clients don't support doing this from the channel, and you don't want people to see your password if you typo anyway), type the following:

/ns register *password* *your e-mail address*

This will cause a confirmation e-mail to go to the address you specify. If you need to reset your password, this e-mail will be used.

In order to manipulate your nickname however, you must identify yourself to the nickserv. To do this, simply type in a server window:

/ns identify *password*

Once the nick is registered, you can allocate an IP address to automatically bind to it. Whenever you log in from the computer on which you do this, the nick server will assume it's you and not, say, aliens from the eighth dimension.

/ns access add *your IP address*

You can find your IP address on the welcome message at the top of the server window. It looks like:

"Welcome to the irchighway network BozoCat!~BozoCat@c-98-217-15-250.hsd1.ma.comcast.net"

You can also use wildcards.

Using a Registered Nick

Once your IP address is registered, you can log in and use your nick from any computer with an IP address matching the pattern you used. So can anyone else who matches your IP address sequence.

Logging in from an Unidentified Computer

For people who change IPs regularly, you can also specify a password when you're logging in. In Hydra, this would be in the "new server" dialog.

If you can't find your password dialog in your client, you can still identify yourself by typing:

/ns identify *password*

in a server window.

Other Stuff

/ns help Gives more detailed help information. Gotta type it in a server window, though. /ns sendpass Sends you your password to the e-mail you registered.

IRC Clients

To access the room, you will need an IRC client. The instructions for using these can vary between each client, so please consult their help files. For a list of IRC clients, please check the Wikipedia article on Comparison of IRC clients

NOTE: If you wish to add instructions for a certain IRC client, please feel free to.
