Megatokyo's oldest surviving villains, the Instigators, are a shadowy cult originally created by Psieye as a set of manipulative villains who would drive the factions against one another. Little was known about them for quite some time, though their activities continued with an alliance with the United Sadisticks in Us vs. Them. They were known to have been under the pay of Micro$oft for a while, but that alliance has since been broken off.
It has recently been revealed that the Instigators are followers of the Main Character known as Niho. However there may be dissension among the ranks with respect to this.
User:BozoCat retains sole control of the Instigators, though he happily whores them out to create plot if asked nicely. Here's some useful points for people who wish to write Instigator stuff into their plots.
- The Instigators are organized in a heirarchical cell structure designed to minimize the impact of one or more Instigators becoming turncoats. The ranking heirarchy is (with numbers currently surviving):
- Grand Archon 1
- Archon 3
- Bishop 8
- Cleric 24
- Priest 45
- Acolyte 70
- Initiate 50
- Each member typically supervises 3 members of the rank below them, knows their superior, and that's pretty much it. Thus if an initiate is compromised, only an acolyte is lost, and soforth. Note that if the Instigators were ever to completely fill out their ranking structure, they'd have 3^7 + 3^6 + 3^5 + 3^4 + 3^3 + 3^2 +3^1 + 3^0 members, which is over a thousand. This has never happened, and in practice the Instigators have had between 200 and 300 active agents, plus completely disposable minions such as zombies, etc.
- In dealings with outsiders, the Instigators will typically appoint someone between priest and bishop level of rank. These people are at high risk, but it's best to put someone with some amount of experience on the job. The really important jobs get bishops. Archons are almost never seen (Archon Morgan being an exception due to his rebellious attitude), and Grand Archon Manfloy pretty much never does anything himself. It wouldn't be stylish.
- Here's a list of known Instigators by rank and roles they've played within canon threads.
- Ash: -Formerly an acolyte, currently a member of FGTL.
- Ishutal: Was a priestess when she first appeared. Is now a cleric reporting to her father Bishop Blume. Like lightning. Kidnapped Amchan. Twice.
- Blume: Bishop. Likes lightning even more than Ishutal. Prominent figure in Stick Wars. Now works for the Legion of the Dark Goddess due to the events of Operation Catalyst.
- Volkial: Priest. A vampire, with creepy blood powers. Fought Leto in the Stick Wars.
- Tamika: Priest. Another vampire. Often seen with Volkial.
- Sandima: Cleric. Probably the first Instigator to be written, at the Meanwhile at the UFL Hospital side-thread. Currently calls himself "Saint" and pretends to be an informer against the Instigators. He's actually still working for them. Recently promoted to Bishop. Now works for the Legion of the Dark Goddess due to the events of Operation Catalyst.
- Sandro: Bishop. Stick wars. Now works for the Legion of the Dark Goddess due to the events of Operation Catalyst.
- Morgan: Archon. Chief Niho fanatic. He believes he is destined to replace Manfloy, but hasn't the resources to do it. Operation Catalyst is his brainchild. For breaching the space-time continuum not once, but twice with his evil Thread Necromancy, the continuity monks sentenced him to be eaten by the OOC Monster and banished between the lines. Some say he waits there still for an opportunity to wreak havoc. Havoc that couldn't POSSIBLY involve WolfDead...
- Manfloy: Grand Archon. Hideously evil. Seems to have psionic powers in addition to scads of dark magic. Where did he get them? I almost never play him because evil psionics are total godmods and I dislike godmodding.
Current alliances:
- The Unity Enforcement Authority has an information sharing agreement with the Instigators. They fund the Instigators' efforts heavily. It is rumored that the Dark Will the Instigators worship might be the same thing as the Iron Will of Order that the UEA serves.
Former Alliances:
- Edgewood Defense Technologies-- they tried to form an alliance with EDT but were thwarted by Erden Edgewood's paranoia when he shot one of their agents.
- Microsoft-- Microsoft used to be their chief source of funding. However, the Instigators eventually decided that Microsoft's incompetence made them more of a liability than a benefactor.
