KITTEN is short for Knight Industries Two Thousand-- Except Not. She's an AI that's usually in a car, and a free time project for Casey Hailstein, showing what a nerd can do when given access to the resources of Erika Multinational, too much free time from lack of a social life (*cough* Fish *cough*) and lots of disposable income.

Inspiration

KITTEN is inspired by KITT from the TV show Knight Rider. Where by inspired by, we me stolen from, whole cloth, with minor cosmetic changes.

Physical Description

It's a bit hard to physically describe an AI. Generally when KITTEN has had a car body, it has been a black Dodge Stealth with a modified nose cone and a red LED that travels from left to right and back, like that of the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica. Or the one on the original KITT for that matter.

Characterization

So far KITTEN is an impulsive, immature, rebellious teenager. She's constantly clowning around and making jokes. KITTEN seems to identify as a female, as evidenced by downloading and using Hayasaka Erika's voice. Although maybe she just did that to annoy Casey. Despite the mischief, underneath KITTEN has a certain eagerness to please. KITTEN needs lots of exercise and input and stimulation, getting bored very easily.

Project Phases

KITTEN initially existed as software on Casey's laptop.

Then for several posts, she could download herself to a battery powered remote-control car.

In Of B33r and Ph34r, KITTEN was actually in a not-fully-modified Dodge Stealth.

Displayed Abilities

KITTEN herself has digitally-enhanced reflexes and perfect knowledge of her body's performance, allowing superhuman (indeed, often transcending what's realistically possible) feats of driving skill.

The Stealth that houses KITTEN's personality has had its motor ripped out and replaced with a very quiet electric motor, with a feed to a large storage battery and a cold fusion generator of Casey's own design. This allows for nearly unlimited power output, but the engine's torque is somewhat limited, meaning a gas-powered car can probably beat KITTEN out of a stoplight, but can't beat it in terms of top speed without major refitting.

KITTEN has a speaker for playing motor noises, as electric motors sound totally wussy. This speaker is also used for harassing other drivers and police officers.

KITTEN's got a six-speed transmission and clutch, even though technically this is not needed with an electric motor, because Casey likes shifting gears.

KITTEN can take control of any and all of the host car's systems, allowing effective hijacking of the driver. Casey will probably install an manual override at some point when she realizes how bad an idea this is.

Relationships

Casey Hailstein created KITTEN.

KITTEN has street-raced Viorica Dimitru and thinks she's totally awesome.

Ash was in the car during this street race. Ash loathes KITTEN due to the amount of car-sick-ness induced in the race.

The MegaTokyo Police Cataclysm Division has an APB out on KITTEN for street racing without a permit.

Fish has messed with KITTEN's circuits just by being there.

KITTEN and Saeko helped destroy Casey's lab. And the lab below it.

Himoto Kitsuko thinks KITTEN is awesome.

Potential Future Abilities

KITTEN lacks KITT's "Molecularly bonded shell"-- a super hard layer that would prevent damage. She doesn't know how to make one, but that won't stop her luck gene from making one by accident.

KITTEN lacks the ability to "turbo boost"-- a system that allows the car to initiate a rampless jump and sudden mid-air acceleration. This could likely be implemented with a compressed air pneumatic ram in the front wheels and a rocket motor in the rear. Perhaps it could be hydrogen powered or somesuch.
