Mikage

Mikage is originally a Japanese term meaning honorable shadow.

Two characters, Shiri'janta and Aneko, are mikage. In this case the meaning is literal; as semi-mortals, they are charged with finding imbalances between the spiritual-earthly spheres and 'correcting' them, though individually they may have particular (and often unorthodox) ways of doing so.

They are different from shinigami in that they are still largely human rather than true spiritual creatures. Also, their powers are only that which is gifted to them by Death Himself. They are, essentially, simply gifted human-servants who do the dirty work against the lesser problems that face the underworld.

The special case of Aneko and Shiri's family is comparable to the Jenners from Demonology 101 . They are bound in servitude to Death though they do not say why or how such came to be. As a benefit to their long-standing service, although they are mortal, with each death they are 'refashioned' and returned to the physical world to continue their work.
