Necrowombicon
From TCWiki
The Necrowombicon (also known colloquially as simply the 'wombicon), as far as we know from the actual Megatokyo strips, is something carried around by Miho. Its natural opposite is The C00l Th1ng.
In the odd universe of tC, the Necrowombicon is a strange artifact usually in possession of the Mihoists. It's either regarded as a darkly magical artifact, Miho's diary, or a combination of both.
Meta-Webcomic Background
The Necrowombicon first appeared on another webcomic known only by the cryptic moniker Penny Arcade, specifically in these two strips.
The Necrowombicon's first appearence in the Megatokyo comic was in a Chapter 0 strip of the same name, found here. There are other references to Penny Arcade sprinkled throughout Megatokyo, a fact that is largely attributed to Penny Arcade linking to Megatokyo on their front page very early on into the comic's lifetime, effectively giving Megatokyo a jump-start in readership for which, it would seem, creators Fred Gallagher and Rodney Caston were extremely grateful.
Background Within Megatokyo: The Clans
The 'wombicon has actually been a part of The Clans for as long as The Clans has existed. It first appeared in the near-legendary first thread, The Great Fanboy War, in the hands of Church of Miho President Tragic Bill
Necrowombicon Copies
In the days of the Church of Miho, it was common to produce copies of the necrowombicon, of various qualities and potencies. Generally more senior and powerful members of the Church would have more potent copies. These copies came in different 'flavors,' major, minor, lesser, and least. The names of which, represented both the amount of reserve power within the copy, and the highest level of incantation available to the wielder (printed within). The beginning of this trend seemed to occur doing the CoM:NB (Church of Miho: New Blood) thread, with Manta_X's "Lesser-Wombicon Hybrid." After this item appeared, there were allusions to other copies having been made (Cryshalo's order to distribute lesser copies among the Initiates after the first assault on the CoM by Microsoft, the R.A.V.E.R.s (Ravenous Ambulatory Vassals of Evil Reincarnate) having carried "least" copies to both enhance their effectiveness in combat, as well as to help power their otherworldly existance.
The 'True' Necrowombicon (referenced above as 'the' Necrowombicon before a distinction was to be made) was given to Thale, who vanished at the end of CoM:NB, taking it with him until A New Confusion in Megatokyo. Though it appears that Thale was active during 'The Miho Files' it has since been revealed that this was an imposter Thale, by the fact that he did not have the 'Wombicon. During the CoM:NB thread, a "perfect copy" was made, as well as a "failed copy". The Failed copy was made as a decoy, and stolen by Tall and Blonde, two henchmen of WolfDead. When he attempted to use it to power the Rulebreaker, it did not hold out long enough for him to fully accomplish his goal of stealing the Rulebook of Megatokyo. It is thought that Thale followed WolfDead inside, sealing him within using the True Necrowombicon. As no current records of the fight have been revealed to more than a select few individuals, this is the most sane accounting of the events that took place. The Perfect Copy was a result of the splitting of Megatokyo into two pieces, VRMT, and Megatokyo. The Perfect Copy is from VRMT, and is perfect by virtue of the fact that it is an item with Main Character status, and could not be simulated in any way by microsoft without creating a perfect copy. Microsoft having created it also alludes to it's one percieved flaw (below). The Perfect Copy was recovered by BGMaster, then passed down to Nightwalker, Sabyr, then Mahou.
There was also a brief time period where necrowombic powers were imbued to any reader of the Perfect Copy. It is speculated that this blatant overpowering was the result of Niho's influence. Additionally, a theory exists that the Perfect Copy 'leaks' it's Wombic power, making it appear to be less perfect and more copy. While not a largely accepted theory, it would explain the difference between powers granted by merely reading the book, versus powers granted during the Oath-Swearing as part of an Initiate's entry into the Church of Miho.
Currently the True Necrowombicon is in PDA form in the possession of Trish Derian. It has shown itself to have a personality of it's own, as well as emotions, and the ability to take control of it's wielder. It seems to be jealous of anyone using magick which is not drived from it. The Perfect Copy is in book form in the possession of Mahou, and has not as of yet shown any personality traits of it's own. Currently the Perfect Copy holds Niho's spirit within it, the effects of which have not yet been revealed.
