"Hiya!"

Viorica glanced cooly at the blond transfer girl. It'd been hard not to notice her, all bubbles and sunshine from the moment she'd entered the class room a week ago. She could respect a little that the girl wasn't the complete ditz she seemed to be. The English teacher left her alone, something he'd learned to do the first day Viorica had spoken to him in perfect, unaccented English the first day, telling him in no uncertain terms that she did not require his instruction. He had the girl, was her name ?, helping the other students. She hadn't really seen how she did in other subjects, not that she cared but sometimes she noticed things.

"What do you want?" Viorica asked coldly.

"Well, I noticed your calculations," she answered, her cheery tone not lessening at all, "and I think you skipped a number there. Wouldn't that change the outcome of the calculation? It's ballistics so I know it's pretty complex, a bad calculation might be dangerous. Wouldn't it?"

Viorica blinked, what the hell could this girl know about the ballistics calculations for a weapon that technically didn't exist, a 9 millimeter magnum? She looked at where Yuno was pointed and saw it. She'd mixed up the grain loads for the powder, if she'd used these numbers (even though the weapon would really never exists, it was just something to pass the time) the case would have shattered the first time the gun was fired.

"um...arigato..."

"That's ok!" Yunichi replied happily, "I'm just glad I could help. I don't know anything about guns, I'm just pretty good at math. What kind of gun is this? It looks scary."

It did look a little scary, the wicked looking sketch looked like something meant for a macabre fantasy anime.

"It's not a real gun, not this.' Viorica said quickly, "I was bored and I sketched it, then I had the thought that it looked like a nine millimeter from it's dimensions, so I started working out the ballistics for a nine-millimeter magnum. A Magnum is a-"

For the rest of homeroom, which had turned out to be a self study day when the teacher had phoned in sick, Viorica talked to Yuno about guns, ballistics, military vehicles, mechanics and more. Yuno didn't contribute much except to prod with questions, leading Viorica through almost her entire range of interests, even into samurai swords which she had lately been studying a lot. By the time Viorica realized what was happening, the bell had rung and she was promising to go somewhere with Yuno somewhere tomorrow.

It was a beginning.
