Not really a plot, but people linked it, so I'll make a page.

Stands for "Practical Defense against the Undead". It was a lecture Ash gave in the spirit of the Defense Against the Dark Arts lecture given by a dark wizard in the fourth Harry Potter book (not giving any more than that away). It was attended by a sizable portion of the game population at the time.
