Basic Gist: Ex-supersoldier cyborg gunslinger, amoral bastard, slightly mad scientist, part-time mercenary and engineer, specializing in destruction of undead. Cynical, highly skilled, but prefers to solve things through brute force. No magical powers or potential whatsoever, relies on gadgetry and raw power to compensate.
Skorpion is the second in command and head of research and development for the Followers of Great Teacher Largo. He also runs most of the faction's business and military operations, and is working on transforming the faction's business operations into it's sole means of support in order to gain independence from financial backers.
Equipment: Titanium chainmail-reinforced leather trench coat
Plate armor - Constructed from layered ceramic and steel, coated with and bound together with special nanopolymer, and held together by a Kevlar undersuit where the partial exoskeleton system doesn't cover. Was originally a prototype for FGTL standard infantry armor, but turned out too heavy for most people to actually wear, and has been tinkered with ever since. Proof against anything up to and including .50 BMG rounds to the chest.
Weapons: (carried on his person)
Twin H&K MP7 SMGs - Armour-piercing ammunition, foregrip and shoulder stock removed to save weight,
Boltpistol - A small missile launcher in the form of a 30mm pistol, fires either explosive armor-piercing, HEAT, APDS, or anti-undead serum delivery rounds. Entirely electronically operated, including the rotating clip mechanism.
Chainsword - Cross between a bastard sword and a chainsaw. Powered either by a 2-stroke chainsaw motor, a small gas turbine, or a hydrogen fuel cell; he changes the powerpack out according to his mood..
Bastard sword - Large broadsword, Damascus steel, inscribed with silver-filled runes, and blessed. Ornate hilt was a family heirloom, and one of Skorpion's few links to his past.
Twin H&K USP Tactical .45 pistols
4 M9 bayonets
M4 Benelli Super 90 12 gauge combat shotgun, with selection of tungsten buckshot, SCIMTR flechette, and napalm/thermite incindeary rounds.
Desert Eagle .50 - Large pistol. Modified with longer barrel and clip, firing high-grain rounds of either standard lead or inscribed silver bullets, depending on the situation. (He simply switches clips when it seems like one is more suitable)
M9 Beretta - Loaded with rubber bullets, used for situations where blowing large, bloody holes in people is a disadvantage, comedic effect on passers-by, and occasionally as a remote switch operator (tends to destroy the switch, or at least leave dents).
(Carried in an armored bookbag)
H&K XM8 5.56mm carbine prototype (dismantled) - Prototype modular rifle system, can be assembled as a large SMG, small assault rifle, sniper rifle, and light machinegun. Technology demonstrator, and so somewhat fiddly to assemble, tends to fall apart if not assembled right or fired too much, and technically stolen.
3 LAW disposable anti-tank missiles, one HEDP, one HEAT, and one thermobaric.
Roughly 25lb of C4, separated into 1/2lb lumps with attached detonator and double-sided tape.
C00l Thing replica
Large amounts of boxed ammunition and spare clips for above weapons.
Energy packs - A mixture of various energy drinks, espresso coffee beans, sugary breakfast cereals, weight gain powder, and energy bars. Kept in large blood-sample bags with a straw taped on, and marked clearly with biohazard symbols. Correctly labeled, ingestion by 'normal' people will lead to an almost trandecendent, bullet-time high, followed a while later by unconsciousness.
Medi-packs - A less dangerous and potent mix of the above, but with an extraction of his own bio-nanites added to speed healing and recovery; the caffeine and sugar ensure quick delivery to the bloodstream and a shock-reducing effect while the nanites kick-start the healing process.
Transport:
The Beast; A heavily armoured pickup. Has 6 wheels (all driven and steered), a V12 Merlin engine modified with fuel-injection and quad turbochargers replacing the supercharger, and heavy armour plating (steel, nanoparticle-reinforced polymer, and ceramic). The cabin has space for 6 people, and the rear of the vehicle is taken up partly by an electronics suite and an extendable 30mm chaingun turret on the roof, leaving a standard-length pickup bed for load carrying at the rear. Remote locking and engine starting is operated by a keyring-sized c00l thing.
Recently fitted with adjustable suspension and aerodynamic surfaces to enable it to turn at high speed.
Top speed is known to be around 250MPH, which can be boosted to around 300-350 by a system that replaces the high-octane gasoline fuel with pure methanol, making it capable of outperforming most stock vehicles on the road, and outmatches nearly everything off-road. The Beast was designed specifically for chasing and taking down other vehicles, and for absorbing large amounts of damage. To this end, it is heavier armoured than most light tanks, and armed like an attack helicopter. The vehicle itself has achieved near-legendary status among mercenaries, potential employers, and among independent arms dealers for being extremely destructive, hard to stop, and hard to fix if anyone does manage to stop it. The current value of the vehicle itself is unknown, due to many parts being priceless, illegal, and in some cases both. Weight: ~6 Tonnes (6,000 kilograms, or roughly 12,000 lb.) Horsepower is around 2500HP, raised to >3000 when running on methanol.
Skorpion also uses various other vehicles, but tends to use the Beast more often than most.
Other vehicles: Superbike: Currently a Suzuki Hayabusa, supplemented by a turbocharger and nitrous oxide injection system, as well as extensive engine tuning. Light armour plating is fitted as standard to the front bodywork and around the engine.
Muscle cars: One of Skorpion's hobbies is collecting and upgrading old American muscle cars (Generally 2-door fastback models) for use as staff cars for the FGTL, bridging a gap between the armoured SUVs and the biker squads. In general, the modifications are engine replacements (original engine switched out for an 800HP supercharged, fuel-injected V8), armour plating (small arms fire, up to and including 7.62 rifle rounds), and nitrous oxide injectors.
Background: Skorpion was originally born and educated in England, and still retains citizenship under his former identity, which he did not remember until recently. This was rectified when an old friend of his turned up at FGTL HQ, and helped him dig around in his lost and inaccessible memories to find a fragment of his former identity. He moved to America after leaving university, and was drafted into the US Army. There, he volunteered for an experimental super-soldier program. This lead to him being modified with protein-based cell-repair nanomachines, a neurally grafted computer system, a full computer interface grafted to his brain stem, and nanotech implants to boost both his metabolism and the efficiency of his muscles. These implants give him nightvision image enhancement and infra-red vision, as well as a visual output from the system projected onto his corneas. This means he can use the system as a full HUD, and essentially speak any language due to reading the phonetic pronunciation from the display. He has compatibility with Ethernet (Gigabit bandwidth), USB 2.0, and wi-fi, with Bluetooth available through a USB dongle.
He left the US army after the failure of the super-soldier project, being either the only one or one of the few survivors of the project. The other subjects either went insane from connecting to the internet directly, or were killed by complications during surgery. Along with the other survivors, he was executed by lethal injection, but his nanomachine implants repaired the damage, and caused him to wake up a few days later. As such, he no longer holds US citizenship on account of being legally declared dead. After that, he wandered around America for a while as a bounty hunter and mercenary, before returning to England to join the vampire-hunting organization Hellsing. After a time there, he was sent off to America to hunt vampires as a freelance agent. There, he drifted from place to place, hunting undead and taking on mercenary work, and perfecting his new technologies. On his travels he met Summer, a magic-amplifying empath. Due to her abilities and attitude, he refers to her as a magical girl. He moved to Megatokyo a few years later, after being hired by the FGTL soon after their founding. as head of weapons development. He has since designed most of the FGTL's unique technology, and is still experimenting with various technologies. He now specializes in metallurgy, magnetics, engines, and passive manotechnology.
Appearance: Height: 6'6" (6 feet, 6 inches) Eyes: Blue/grey, change according to mood. Hair: Long black hair in ponytail to the bottom of his shoulderblades, tied with a cable tie close to his neck. The cable tie also holds a pair of cables in his hair, one USB cable, and one gigabit Ethernet cable. The cables are both a nod to the cyberpunk fashion movement, and a practicality for accessing computers.
Clothing: Full-length brown trenchcoat with an icon of Largo's face next to the c00l thing on the back. Slung over the back are his chainsword, bastard sword and shotgun, held vertical by straps slung over his shoulders like backpack straps. His trenchcoat is usually worn open, and held down at the shoulders by the chains. Under his trenchcoat, he wears an 3v1l l33t T-shirt and baggy black combats over plate armour constructed from layers of ceramic and steel coated by a nanoparticle-deinforced polymer. Around his neck, he has a black lanyard with the miniature c00l thing remote entry key for the Beast. His boots are large black combat boots, made in the same way as his body armour, with heavy hardened steel toecaps and spiked soles. His trenchcoat pockets are cut very deep and wide, and acheive near Bag of Holding-like storage for small items. In his pockets (among other things), he has a full-size replica of Largo's c00l thing, along with reloads for his weapons and other assorted useful items.
Personality: Generally rude, suspicious, and paranoid that someone is after him, whether it be the undead, the US millitary, the CIA with terrorism charges, other mercenaries after the bounties on his head, and the like. He's often right about it, too. No-nonsense practicalist attitude, but tends to get stuck up in details. He speaks all major languages, many minor ones, and a few fictional ones as well, due to translation software. Has no conscience to speak of, it having been surgically removed (the CEA have blacklisted him after a run of operatives either being seriously injured or suffering mental trauma), and so tends to run plans past other people and gauge the reaction to substitute for this. Considers himself a 'good guy', and is afraid (and somewhat touchy about) going too far down the slippery slope to 'bad guy' territory. Blunt, honest, and about as subtle as a bulldozer. Tends to shoot people in the leg if they're being excessively annoying, won't stand still to be shot anywhere else, or if he's just having a bad day. If he remembers, he'll even use rubber bullets. Noble as much as he can be while still in the habit of shooting people and blowing things up for fun and profit, and will tend to put his own safety and well-being on the line to save people. He dislikes his new role with dealing with newbies to the FGTL, feeling it would be a more appropriate role for someone in a lower rank, but despairs at the inability of anyone else to take action towards dealing with them.
Habits: - Shooting down mysterious shadowy black helicopters that hang around just outside legal FGTL airspace.
- Tagging people with RFID tags. (So far, most of the FGTL, various other factionists, and the TPCD.)
- Tinkering with engines or large weapons.
- Snarking at NPCs in languages they don't understand.
- Plotting the destruction of any organisation strong enough to rival the FGTL.
- Theorising about the events of the comic.
- Manipulating the nature of Megatokyo to his advantage.
- Inventing things, such as The Thing That Goes CL4NG, and the Nuclear Coffeemaker
Abilities:
-Superhuman strength: Due to microfiber muscle implants and an artificially raised metabolism, Skorpion can lift casually what body-builders strain to, peaking out at roughly a ton.
-Regeneration: Skorpion regenerates damage, due to protein-based nanites in his bloodstream and his heightened metabolism. Unlike most forms of regeneration it doesn't heal wounds extremely fast, but more performs first aid automatically, effectively making Skorpion significantly tougher than most humans. This makes him essentially immortal or very long-lived, due to the system being coded for a set physical age. After excessive damage, he can regenerate completely from roughly a square foot of bodymass, 5% of his neural mass, a schematic of his implants, given sufficient raw materials, controlled conditions and plenty of time. He is currently building a suspension chamber in one of the FGTL HQ's many sub-basements to allow this.
-Cranial implants: These allow Skorpion to connect directly to any computer network using conventional hardware. On top of this, the implants improve his speed of thought and recall abilities due to the increased speed of the computer system in comparison to the human brain, as well as letting him read computer files directly. The implants also allow him to hack into computer networks in much the same way as an advanced AI. They have the downside of being sensitive to magic due to the large amounts of complicated circuitry in a small space. As such, the presence of large amounts of magical energy nearby give him headaches, which escalate to migraines in the presence of the multitude of protection and buffing spells that some mages have cast constantly. As an additional benefit, he speaks all major languages, most minor, and a few fictional ones due to the translation software installed. The implants give him almost complete immunity to mind-control effects. His concience was removed during their installation, leading to his complete lack of morals and concern for people he doesen't know.
-Ocular implants: These allow Skorpion to see in the infra-red spectrum, as well as granting him advanced nightvision. They also form a sort of HUD, with information being projected onto his corneas from the cranial implants and any connected systems such as gunsights. A reflective layer prevents blindness from sudden illumination, giving his eyes a cat-eye glow when illuminated thusly.
-Weapon skills: Skorpion is highly skilled with firearms, particularly those of western manufacture. He is also trained in medieval swordfighting styles of the bludgeon-and-thrust variety, and is a highly proficient knife-fighter.
-Unarmed skills: Skorpion uses a blend of MGS-style CQB, judo, and Muay Thai (A Thai variant of kickboxing renowned for effectiveness and brutality), switching between styles when necessary to gain the upper hand. Prefers to focus on solid punches and backhand strikes with the reinforced sections of his gauntlets, but is not above dramatic-looking kicks for heavy blows or simply looking cool. His skills combined with his armour and strength give him a punch like a medieval lance.
-Magic: Negative ability. Magic gives him a headache at the very least, going right up to passing out in the presence of powerful spells, with prolonged exposure resulting in trauma around his implants. As a result of this, any magical assessment of his power level will show up a level far below the human norm.
- Electronic omniscience: He can find out anything about anyone online, and will have looked them up within minutes of meeting them. As such, he can and will make allusions to such.
Running Gags
- Terrible driver: He goes through and over rather than around, drives far too fast, and takes unorthodox shortcuts. He flies just as badly.
- Parking habits: He opens spaces by parking on, shunting, and compressing other vehicles, and amputates parking meters because of a loophole in the regulations surrounding mercenary licenses, ongoing rampages and parking charges mean free parking. Arella has recently convinced him to give the money he obtains from them to charity instead of keeping it.
- No conscience: Skorp is completely amoral. He will often suggest extremely direct and somewhat brutal ways of dealing with problems, shoots people with rubber bullets to stop them causing trouble, and tests holy water by splashing Ash with it and seeing if she sizzles. (Ash usually responds by whacking him in the brain with chaos magic, and then considers the matter even.)
History to date: Skorpion was involved with the FGTL from around the time of U.S. Versus Them, when he lead the FGTL on a doomed charge on the stick figures assaulting Erika Multinational. In Rise of the Dark Goddess, he led another failed attack, this time on the KFH, ending in the entire force being pied heavily.
In A New Confusion in MegaTokyo, he was heavily involved in dealing with the recent influx of new recruits to the FGTL, and helped Ash to exorcise a necromancer/evil mage type from Andrew Lazyass in a rather dodgy and suggestive manner. After the resignation of Sarah Shimizu, he was promoted to second in command of the faction, and was a major part of Ash's plan for the replacement of Miho. After the attack on FGTL HQ, he assumed the task of rebuilding bigger and better, and is planning an expansion to the recently-conquered Wong Industries property for use as an airfield. He feels somewhat guilty about the nuclear coffeemaker irradiating most of the basement and melting a hole through the kitchen floor when beam-sabered. Due to the blatant aggression displayed towards him by the US forces on the same night, he is now expanding the FGTL in the hope that it will someday be big enough to make them leave him alone.
Relationships with other characters:
Andrew Lazyass: His boss. Gets on well with him, but is still paranoid and suspicious of his motives. Especially since he started using Shadow Magic. Avoids telling him anything until it absolutely needs his approval, partly out of suspicion and partly out of desire to avoid meddling. Slips RFID tags in his food because he never takes his issued tracker anywhere with him.
Summer: Old friends, now sort-of involved with her, and uses her as an external conscience for his plans.
Lucius: Good friends with, and they used to go undead-hunting and drinking together. Treats him as wholly expendable because of the immortality.
Ash: Suspicious of her on principle, but believes she's risen beyond being an Instigator (possibly because she wasn't much good at being evil anyway).
Westly: Hates his guts, gets painful migraines in his presence, and wavers between barely tolerating him and fighting the urge to shoot him.
Inferno: Extremely suspicious of, but likes his habit of getting things done. Dislikes his habit of vanishing without trace.
Mahou: Highly suspicious of her, partly because she's creepy, partly because she's a Mihoist, and partly because her attitude gives him the feeling that she can snap him in two given half a chance. Has vowed petty revenge on her for the (now radioactive) Largo-plushie running around the basement, tripping over wires and making spooky noises. Is not at all at ease with her hanging around in the Infirmary.
Vavrek: Suspicious of him due to being a Mihoist and a known traitor.
Arella: Saved her life once, and has become protective of her once she hit MT, despite being immune to her magical girl cuteness. Uses her as a spare conscience occasionally, but not often because she disagrees with anything even the slightest bit illegal. Tends to use her magical cute power as a jedi mind trick.
Sareth/Saeko: Previously believed him to be a creepy stalker-type, but now sees him as another failed experiment from the US millitary. Doesen't get on at all well with Saeko due to the 'identification' incident at the Rave.
