The Book of Shadows

The Book of Shadows is an ancient tome held sacred by the Shadow Mages. Only five copies exist-- one is currently held by Ash. The others' locations are unknown. It has no magical properties, but for reasons not yet known IC, can be read by anyone who can read at least one language.
The book is long, but Ash's copy is missing over half its pages. The remaining part details a version of the Genesis story mostly concerning angels rather than humans, and centers on a tragic figure known as Marius, an angel driven mad by the loss of his love.
There have been implications that the book somehow grants the ability to know how and when people will die, except that sometimes Ash and Lazyass's cases, it gives incorrect information. Shadow mages have been known to forcibly and violently correct this inaccuracy.
